RefugeeOthers he had known had gone before him. Others would follow him, but he was forced to go alone. Where would he go? He faced two choices. Since no one had returned from either destination, there was no way of knowing for sure what was out there. But there were stories. To the south, he heard that there was a dry, desolate country. It would sustain him, but the comforts were few and far between. It was a backward land, where life would be hard and cruel, although the king of this land reportedly denied such stories and promised a pleasurable life. The road to this country was well maintained. It was wide and easy to travel. Word was, all were welcome, and no one would be turned away. There were no entry requirements, and you didn't need a passport. Besides, most people chose this destination. How bad could it be? Stories told of a land to the north, a land of comfort and tranquility. Food, shelter, clothing, and health were provided to all who settled there. However, the only way to get there was a narrow and treacherous path through the desert and mountains. All were welcome here also, but not just anyone would be admitted. In fact, compared to the southern region, the number of people going north was small. The journey would be extremely difficult, more difficult than the one to the south. All who made the journey were admitted, and there was a Guide who would lead those who chose this path. He had heard of this Guide, but many people had dismissed Him as a crackpot. He was promising peace, but the price was too good to be true - in order to become a citizen of this country you have to be sponsored by its King. All you have to do is declare your allegiance to the King, and He will welcome you with open arms. Time to leave was getting close. Who should he believe? Which way should he go?
