Remnant

Micah 5:7,8 Then the few left in Israel will go out among the nations. They will be like dew sent by the Lord or like rain, falling on the grass. The remnant of Israel will go out among the nations and be strong as a lion. When I was in high school I worked at a local department store, Mercer Wenzel in Delray Beach. My duties were confined to the millinery department- measuring and cutting material for customers. When the bolt of material was nearly gone, it was placed on the remnant table. Just pieces of this and that were on that table, ready to be sold at a bargain price. Occasionally a customer would share how she planned to use the remnant, and once someone brought back the finished product for me to admire. It was lovely. Just because the material was a "leftover" didn’t mean that it was merit-less.

Webster’s dictionary defines remnant as something left over; a remainder; a surviving trace; a small remaining group of people. This describes the Jewish race. They were exiled to Babylon, but a remnant of them returned to Jerusalem and to God himself in 537 B.C. The Jewish people were a chosen race- they were blessed to be a blessing, and were selected with great love and mercy. This small group of courageous and God fearing people are the forefathers of Christianity today.. and have great merit. For it is through them that our roots of Christianity are grounded.

The entire story is told in the Bible, and it is not only a miraculous one, but an interesting one also. Maybe we should all take the time to read it once again.
