Bigger Than PhilThe impossible is impossible because it can't be done. Sounds simple, but it's really profound. I've been trying to learn that all of my life. And, the essence and beginning of wisdom is the realization of what is impossible and what is not impossible. I love the Mel Brooks comedy bit where he plays the part of the 5,000 year old man. The interviewer asks him if he was there when Jesus lived. He said, "Oh yes, finest carpenter I ever met. He created and made for me one of the finest dresser drawers you've ever seen and I paid him with a check. Can you imagine how much money that check would be worth to me now if I had kept it?" And then the interviewer asks, "And were you there when they were worshiping God?" He replies, "Oh yes, his name was Phil." "Phil?" "Yeah, Phil started going around telling people he was God and he got a crowd of people to follow him around and one day Phil was standing out in a field and he was teaching and lightening bolt came down and sizzled him and killed him. And the man next to him backed off a bit and said, 'You know, there's somebody bigger than Phil.'" I want you to know that the essence of maturity is discovering that there's somebody bigger than Phil. And if you're a Pagan and someone shares this with you, I don't expect you to believe everything I say, but you can believe this. There is somebody bigger than Phil (and you), and if you start there, then there's a good chance you'll end up in the right place. "If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is sitting at [the] right hand of God. Be mindful of things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life has been hidden with Christ in God. When Christ our Life [is] revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. -Colossians 3:1-4
