Falling Leaves II, Part SixEditor's note:This week we are running the serial story, Falling Leaves II. If you missed Part One, you can find it here:http://www.DailyWisdom.com/2001/11/12/ Dappled cream spots, adorn the side of a sleeping fawn. The design is caught in the rays of the sun breaking through the tree canopy. Its eyes glow in the sun just before blinking and closing again, curiously unafraid it lay its head back down. Lost leaves are crushed under foot. Soothing sounds of vibrant turquoise water trickles and spills over the forest green moss and smooth stones below. The waterfall is breathtaking. Alec and Rebecca are hiking up The River stream. "Okay it's here where the river forks, to the right of the waterfall," Alec points. "That would be this way." "You know it's late we've come a long way we need to go back," Rebecca looks at the sky. "It's just right here, see there it is." They see a cottage and go to the door. An old man answers it. "Come in... Is it a treasure that you seek?" "Why do you say that?" Alec holds open the door for Rebecca. "Because it is a treasure that everyone seeks. Are you any different? And you my dear girl do you seek a treasure?" "Yes I do." "And what is this you have come to find? Why do you seek me?" "I want to find the truth about life." "My yes, you are on a mission and who has sent you?" "My heart." "And who is in your heart?" "I don't know." "You should know who is in your heart. If you do not know who is in your heart then you will never know the secret of life. Because the keeper of the heart is also the keeper of life. When you have the right one there he will reveal the secrets you seek." "How do I get the right one there?" "The one you put there yourself is the one you will have. You see there really are no secrets, only those things you do not know yet. The truth is no mystery." "Will I find the answer if I look hard enough?" "One can always find the truth if one looks. There, hand me the box in the corner, the blue one" he takes the box from Alec. "Is it the blue one?" "Yes, see?" Alec motions to the box. "No, I am blind." Alec and Rebecca look at each other. "Take this box and open it. What ever you find is your enemy" The man hands her the box. "There is nothing." "Really. Look harder." "I can't see anything." "Maybe then it's something that can't be seen with the eye." "What could be my enemy that I can't see?" "Maybe it's not what you can see that's your enemy but what you can't. Now look again." She looks really hard. "There is only a Gray dot. A spot of paper or something." "When you first looked you had faith. Faith that there was something in the box. Yet you looked and seen nothing. When you looked again having seen nothing the first time you looked in fear and seen the dot. Faith can't be seen but it is the only thing you need to see clearly. Fear can't be seen but it can blind you." "What is the Gray dot?" "When you know that you'll know the truth. You have the knowledge to figure it out, it was given to you at your request. The truth is not hidden so don't look in dark spots. Look in the light." "But I'm an archeologist. I look for old bones, these I look for now would be in the dark." "Then the light will be needed to find them. Light can live in the dark but dark can't live in the light." "Thank youhere is the box." She moves to place it back down. "Keep it. It is yours. Use it to remember the choice belongs to you." "May I ask you something else?" "Yes." "If you are blind how did you know I was a woman? You may have heard the footsteps of two but I had not yet spoke." "In my box there is faith." "They leave." "Wow, that was a really strange man." "Yes, maybe." she looks at her faith box. Alec and Rebecca travel for a while and it begins to rain. Lighting and thunder crash and the sky turns dark. "We need to find cover. It's too far to the cottage or to the camp". He looks up towards the mountain. He sees a cave. They run and enter it. "Can you believe this? I'm soaked." "Gee, where's that ark?" "Oh, Ha, ha, aren't you funny?" "I'm glad to see you smiling. Then I completed my task successfully." "I do feel better, thanks." "How come you're single? I assume you are. I see no ring." "I was. He was killed, car accident. After that I just worked, you?" "I've never been, come close but didn't." "She sits on a rock. He goes over and sits next to her. He takes her hand and kisses it on the top then turns it over and kisses the palm. She pulls it away." "I don't do that." She gets up. "Do what?" "What you are trying to do." "Kiss, or get close to anyone?" "Either." "Don't tell me your afraid. I thought you were brave," he goes to her and looks into her eyes. "There's nothing casual about me Alec." "That's what I like about you. Your intensity," he kisses her. "I don't get that close unless I'm married." "Okay. I'll remember that God married Adam and Eve so they could get close in the garden, we're in the garden." "Yes, you are a funny guy aren't you? Well, I don't see him here and he'd have to come down for me to let you kiss me again," she walks over to the opening and looks out at the sky. "It stopped raining. He's on my side." "Now you're being funny." They return to camp. "Rebecca, where have you been? I was afraid you had gotten lost and overtaken by wild animals," Thomas seems frantic. "Why do you worry me?" "Sorry, Father. I almost was, but God protected me," she smiles at Alec, he glares back. "Where did you get this blue box," he opens it. "With a gray dot in it?" "Oh Father, you have no faith," exasperated, she takes it from him. "What, no faith? What did I do?"
