Falling Leaves II, Part Five

Editor's note:This week we are running the serial story, Falling Leaves II. If you missed Part One, you can find it here:http://www.DailyWisdom.com/2001/11/12/

Alec's sleek silver Cessna penetrates and divides the marshmallow clouds as the group scouts locations. They are using special equipment.

"Tell me again Rebecca what is this SLAR?" Thomas looks at the instruments in bewilderment.

"Sideways-looking airborne radar, it's advanced aerial technology that sends and receives pluses of radiation."

"It's used to form a detailed picture of terrain below. Ray here, James points to a member of the team, "is our GIS expert. Geographic Information Systems. He takes the ground penetrating radar and radiation information and translates it into something we can understand.

This computer," he points to the computer and its operator, " and Dennis will provide environmental, geographic and geologic data in a single database. We can create maps that simulate different environments and ways in which people might have lived, used land, living space and material goods. With thermal scanners and infrared radiation we can detect minute differences in ground temperatures to detect the presence of buried buildings or caves. With these techniques we can keep excavation to a minimum. Save the sights for others in the future."

"Why do you follow the river so closely?" Alec looks out the window, then at Rebecca.

"We know that in ancient times people lived along the rivers because they needed the water. So we lookS"

"Along the water," Alec finishes.

"I think we have enough to study," Dennis pulls data out from a printer. "We can set down if you like."

The plane turns as they look for a landing site. Now the group sits at a table looking at the computer printouts.

"Here, here we've got something here," Ray a life long, studious intellectual drops his guard and lets his excitement show. "See this change in the temperature and the different magnetic pulse waves. There are signs of ancient life here. Aging manmade material gives off a slanted different kind magnetic energy."

"Is it gold, Alec asks?"

"We need to look with metal detectors to know that," Dennis looks at Alec with greed. "Maybe."

"Dennis do you see any evidence of caves in the area?" Rebecca looks at the map printout.

"Yes, they're some caves."

"Oh, Dennis," Rebecca continues. "Could you do me a favor? I need some geological data on the ice ages. There were some animal remains that were discovered frozen instantly with chewed food still in their mouth, food that was grown in a warm environment. It was somewhere in northern Europe. Could you find that information for me, also on possible world floods?

"It would take me awhile but I guess I could. I'd have to e-mail some places for statistics."

"Uncle James. If there were a place where vegetation grew extremely prolific, sort of supernaturally so. Then a curse was put on that area or all land and say a natural food source died out for no reason you would see evidence of that occurring, right? Geologists would see that evidence right? We could compare that with other areas of similar climate and see if the foliage in one place was unexplainably abundant and fruitful, right.

"A curse, what do you mean? James looks puzzled.

"Yes just humor me?"

"Your not talking about gardens, floods, visions and dreams are you?" Thomas looks at his daughter.

"A flood? Like Noah's ark, a flood? Isn't the ark on Ararat?" Alec looks toward the mountain, which is close by. "Are we looking for a big boat?"

"I'm just trying to find the truth."

"Rebecca we are scientists not foolish men," her Father stands up and gets his coffee cup.

"Is a scientist a fool?"

"Rebecca!"

"Father is he? Is a scientist a smart man or not?"

"He is!"

"Then let a smart man be smart and a fool be a fool." At that she leaves to go to her tent.

"She is not herself. I do not know what to think!" Thomas refills his coffee cup.

Alec goes to find Rebecca. He is outside her tent. "I would knock but I don't think you'd hear me. Can I come in?" He goes inside. "Rebecca don't take everything so seriously lighten up."

Rebecca is on her bunk. She is just staring up. "But life is serious. I'm really not as bad as I seem. My Father is right, I'm tired and I can't get rested. But it's not a tiredness of the body as much as the heart. I don't know what's wrong with me."

"I know, you need a diversion. Lets go hiking around and not think of being what people think we should be. Let's just be ourselves, mistakes and all. I have this map to an old religious guy's house. I got it from these kids. He's suppose to have great knowledge of mysteries and secrets. Maybe he can answer your questionsS If it's any consolation, I believe there was a flood. I bet there's probably lots of animal bones around just waiting to be discovered by a beautiful woman. All she had to do is look." He playfully unties her bootlace.

"It's not animal bones I'm looking for." She sits up and reaches to tie it back. "It's human bones. Two sets that are one. If God made Eve from Adam's rib bone and his side, like the Bible says, they would have very interesting DNA. Not similar like siblings but, maybe the same. I need to look for these bonesSin a cave."

"Would there still be DNA after so many millions of years?"

"Not so many years as you think. I've been having strange dreams and I had like a vision. I know that sounds strange but I did. They contained some numbers. Forty, four and six. Those numbers are significant and I'm obsessed with them. I'm trying to find out if they jive with anything in historySIf I'm understanding Hebrew words correctlySDo you know anything about the Bible?"

"It's a history book, I guess. It seems symbolic, sometimes? God wrote it."

"Maybe its all those things, but I think its literal too. I think when Godsaid a day, I think He meant a day. I think when He said 6 days, He meant 6 days, period. We know that the Earth is older than the generations we count in the Bible. But if the Earth and Universe had been devastated before by what ever and the people gone. It might take 6 days to restore it. In Genesis 1:14 it says, "Let there be lights in the sky to be signs for days and years," but until then He was still calling the time days. So they were just for signs, He knew what length of time He was going to make the day and night. He's so exact about everything else, why not time?"

"If anyone knows what a day and night is its Him.

"If we count the time, using the Bible, between Adam and Noah that would make the flood about 4000 years ago, so it seems that Adam and Eve were created about 6000 years ago.In Genesis 7:21, it says after Noah's flood everything died so He had to restore it then. "In Genesis 8:21, it says that He decided He would never again destroy all life on Earth. It didn't say He hadn't done it before. So I'm interested in flooding."

"So you're saying He may have caused a flood before?"

"He got rid of unwanted people during Noah's time maybe He did it before. Another thing too, He didn't just8 drown t8fbhe people in Noah's flood He waited until even the creeping things were dead. I wonder if that is significant?"

"Wasn't Lucifer in a creeping thing?"

"Well, yes I guess he was, anywaySThe only 40 I can come with so far is about 40,000 years ago Cro Magdon, modern man showed up."

"Humans like we are today?"

"Yes, the model encouraged, the model that exists now. What's strange is if God evolved man, why did different species like Neanderthal and Homo Erectus exist simultaneously, if they existed at all. I know I have found them but I'm wondering what they are. My Father has spent his life and I have spent years looking for the answer to this mystery. Now I'm wondering if there is any real reason to believe God would evolve man even if He did evolve the Earth. The earth took a long time to prepare because it has all these mineral deposits and things like that. I'm beginning to think that as the earth was being created God put the type of life here that could live in the condition the Earth was in at the time, He wasn't in a hurry. But man wouldn't need to age. I think God wanted us to see how He did things, so He showed us. I think He wanted some to have this debate over Him. Somehow it's necessary to His plan, Him remaining somewhat ambiguous. He doesn't want to get people because He's proved He exists by just blatantly revealing his self because in reality those people are not really going to be committed to His ways."

"So all this stresses you out as an archeologist?"

"Well, I guess it would, wouldn't you think so? I don't want to waste my time. I never thought much about floods before, but all floods would have a major impact on geological data. There would be evidence of this happening."

"Unless someone was scrambling the evidence."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, if there's an Adam and Eve there's a devil."

"Dennis is standing outside the tent listening
