Gods Angels, Our StumblingWhen you stub your toes, you jump and howl. You do it at the mostinopportune times too, like heading to the bathroom in the middle of thenight. You dont remember moving that chair. Ouch! The Bible likens Christ to a stone. "For this is contained in Scripture:Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious cornerstone and he whobelieves in Him will not be disappointed" (1 Peter 2:6). People can stub their toes and stumble over stones intended for building."The stone which the builders rejected, this became the very cornerstone," and, "A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense" (1 Peter 2:7). How do people stumble over Christ? Peter explains. "They stumble becausethey are disobedient to the word" (1 Peter 2:8). We stumble over Christand stub our toes on Him, to our own eternal hurt, when we disobey Him.God wonderfully compensates for our weakness and bumbling. Psalm 91:11-12promises, "For He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guardyou in all your ways. They will bear you up in their hands, that you donot strike your foot against a stone." These angels are "ministering spirits, sent out to render service for thesake of those who will inherit salvation" (Hebrews 1:14). They keep heirsof salvation from stumbling over Christ.
