Eyesore!

When we checked in our room at the Homewood Suites in Lewisville, Texas,I moved the table next to the window, so I could write my stories and enjoythe view.I drew back the drapes, remembering there was a little canal behindthe hotel. The view, I remembered, had been conducive to relaxing andmeditating.

Boy, was I surprised and disappointed when I looked out the window! Directly across form our room were shopping carts which had been pushed down the embankment and were nestled in the water's edge. The blue of the basket and the aluminum twisted framing were a terrible "eyesore" to those of us on this side of the canal. It looked as if they had been pushed down the embankment, for they were at the bottom of a cement ramp. It appeared they were carts which belonged to Toys R Us, for there were others lined up along the side of the building. I wondered if the management of thestore knew about this problem, and why they had not corrected the situation. Could the carts be pulled from the water and still used? They would just rust and decompose in their present resting place - a place they were not intendedto be.

We have several purposes in life, the first being to love and serve our Maker with our whole heart and mind. When we allow ourselves to be shoved down the bank of slackness, we become just as useless as those shopping carts.

God has waited for us patiently while we decide to give our hearts to Him. He loves us all so much that He gave His only Son that we might have eternal life (John 3:16). I believe that when we become children of God, He is delighted, and the Bible tells us the angels rejoice! When we stray from God's purpose for us, I wonder if He looks at us like "eyesores." We are useless; not fulfilling our intended purpose and we will rust and decompose, just as those carts will, if something doesn't change.

No, I don't think He ever looks at us as eyesores, because He sees us in our full potential - through the shed blood of Jesus which has made all who will call upon the Name of His Son perfect and whole.

It is a sad commentary when we who have been created for a purpose stray from the path He has for us. But God will never give up on us, because He is full of mercy and compassion. He loves each one of us just as we are, and when we fall into the ungodly river of life, He patiently waits for us - ready to wrap us in His huge towel of love, and pat us dry with His mighty hand of mercy.
