Heavenly Harmonies"Music was a thing of the soul - a rose-lipped shell that murmured of theeternal sea - a strange bird singing the songs of another shore." - Josiah G. Holland I recall writing a story for"Daily Wisdom" a few years ago, relaying how afriend of mine had introduced me to Latin rhythms, a style of music I neverpreviously warmed up to. As it turned out, there were indeed some types ofLatin-based music I not only found I did enjoy, but which actually stirred mysoul in a profound way. Recently, I had another such musical experience. I say this with a certainamount of wonder, because, at age 40, one's ego tends to get the best ofthem, thinking there is nothing new under the sun to learn. But then, lo andbehold, something happens which opens a door, or sheds new light, and ourlives are forever touched! In this case, as not only a music lover, but appreciator of classicalmusic, which tends to be a wonderful stress reducer, a new friend introducedme to a type of classical I honestly had never even been aware of; Frenchorgan music of the early 1900s. The music sounded strange at first, a sound unlike typical composers asMozart or Beethoven, yet one I found intriguing in it's uniqueness. As myears gave way to the intensity of the melodic organ pipes, my modest lunch ofbread and cheese suddenly became a fine feast. Somehow, the music had touchedsome secret place that allowed my mind, body, and spirit to lay back andrest. In this music I heard beauty. As I later copied the music into my own collection, I began to wonder if thisis how God feels when, knowing the precious gift He has just waiting for usto take, His joy is then increased as we actually open and take the beautifulgift of His unique love. Sadly, how often does this gift of salvation lie inwait in much the same way it took me forty years to become aware of theabove-stated style of music? I thought I knew it all, heard of it all, butobviously, I was wrong. Just as my friend invited me to listen to his unique music, I invite YOU tohear the heavenly harmony of God's all-encompassing love!
