WallpaperTime to remove some old wallpaper and give the walls a new treatment.Perhaps just a plain new coat of paint or one of the newer looks - faux, leather, denim or suede. Whatever the choice would be, I knew the first stepwas to strip away that old paper. I started in a corner- peeling away theold would be the easy part, I thought. Then just a coat of paint and zip,zap ! The job would be finished! That was not the case. It seems thepaste I had used when I applied the existing wallpaper was doing its job toperfection. The paper did not easily roll away as I had anticipated. As amatter of fact, some areas were so stuck they took drywall away when I triedto remove the paper. My easy, 1-2-3 do-it-yourself project became alaborious task. When we are ready for a new life treatment through Christ, we can be likethis wallpaper. Some of our old areas of sin are easy to peel away, butthere are other areas which we just don't want to part with. Satan knows usvery well, and he delights in trying to keep us stuck (in a very intense andreal way) to some of our old habits, lifestyles and mindsets. Even Paul, inthe Bible, says sometimes he did things and didn't understand why he didthem. Sometimes, we are glued to ungodly ways of life which are difficult toshed. We have the power to be "unglued" from things displeasing to God whenwe allow the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us. He is still peelingaway at some of my old wallpaper ideas and thoughts. I am glad He will notgive up on me till the job is finished!
