Lost Precious Moments

"Make the most of your regrets. To regret deeply is to live afresh." -Henry D. Thoreau

How many times in a given month, week, or day do wish you could turnback the hands of time and take back ill-spoken words, or behaviorswhich are far from honorable?

What about regretting words NOT spoken; tender and warm outpourings oflove and friendship that could have helped express the true contents ofyour heart? Can we ever tell our friends and loved ones they are caredfor and appreciated too much?

Lost precious moments and feelings of deep regret. They often go handin hand, don't they? We allow good opportunities to pass through ourfingers like fine sand, while at the same time clutching things that are best released from our grip.

With regret though, comes the potential for positive growth, for it is inbeing aware of these losses that we can either make or break ourcharacter. So then, regret is not an enemy, but a unique wake-up call!

Today, won't you ponder this question: In the last few weeks, is thereanything you find yourself regretting?

If I am fully honest with myself, in my own life, I regret not beingmore talkative with a new acquaintance who, because of this person'snewness to my life, I am not as comfortable with as I could be.Thus, I find myself quickly ending our conversations, then laterregretting what I'm sure appears to be my rudeness. While I might notyet be able to speed up this process of friendly comfort, I CAN at leastoffer this person my honesty and tell him that, although I am not yetfully comfortable with meeting new friends, I respect his work, andlook forward to getting to know him better as a person and friend.

To utter such words, even inwardly to ourselves, is not always easybecause it means confronting and admitting our weaknesses, perhaps evenour sins. But the Bible promises us that the truth shall set us free. Thus, such honesty is not a sign of weakness, but of strength, and not a signof defeat, but of victory!

Just as sin is part of our earthly nature as human beings, sotoo are feelings of regret, whether they be remorse over sin, orregretting lost precious moments. Thankfully, repenting of ungodlybehaviors can be as simple as being honest with ourselves and with God.No sin is too great for Him to forgive, and no situation is too great for His intervention.
