Stabilized

We were in Houston when we received a long distance call from our daughter. "Mom, Trey (her boyfriend) has been at the emergency room at St. Joe's Hospital, and they are admitting him to ICU right now." The news was shocking, and I felt helpless, but I sat in our hotel room, praying for him.

Another call was soon to follow- "Mom, he has diabetes and they will keep himin the hospital until he has stabilized." Day after day they kept Trey in thehospital, giving him insulin, checking his blood, and doing numerous otherthings to get him stabilized. It seemed like a long process, this stabilization - his blood count numbers would range from low to high, and then fall into a normal pattern. Back and forth, back and forth, we wondered how long it would take to get him to stabilize.

Well, the dayfinally came when he would be dismissed from the hospital. Insulin injectionswould be a part of his daily life. From now on he would be giving himself two shots a day, plus maintaining a life-long change of eating patterns. He would have to keep his insulin levels stabilized through these two methods to maintain a normal lifestyle.

Just as Trey's physical dilemma needed to be stabilized, so do our spiritual obstacles. You may not think that you have a spiritual block, but if you do not know Jesus personally, I believe you do. Jesus was born, lived, died and was resurrected so that we could ask Him to be the "stabilizing"force in our spiritual life. An overflow of this steadying force would be amore balanced physical and emotional life. When we give ourselves to theLord, He is more than willing - and able - to keep our lives in balance. Weneed to listen to Him (by reading the Bible), talk with Him (through prayer)and praise Him for the sacrifice He made on our behalf.

If you are out of kilter in any area, turn to God and ask Him tostabilize your life. It may not happen overnight, but when His hand of loveis upon you, you will feel the stability creeping in, time and time again.
