Life, Liberty, Happiness #564The founders of America declared Independence on July 4, 1776. This Declaration of Independence was not a statement of autonomy. It does not make us a Law to ourselves.Note this famous line."We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness."Independence is freedom from tyranny. It stems from God and God given rights. These rights are unalienable. They cannot be taken away. We can never be alienated from them. Life is one of these rights. Life comes from God. He alone has the right to terminate life and to dictate the terms of life. Liberty is one of these rights. Liberty comes from God. Liberty is not autonomy. God is the Lawgiver. Our laws follow His lead. We live freely under Gods jurisdiction and under Gods laws. We enjoy true liberty. Free men and women never bow to dictators or tyrants. They bow to God. The pursuit of happiness is one of these rights. Independence does not guarantee happiness. It secures the right to pursue happiness under Gods jurisdiction and under Gods laws. When you celebrate Independence Day, remember your God given life and liberty. Remember your obligation to live for God and pursue happiness under God.
