The Speeding Ticket

You must have received a speeding ticket before. Regrettably, I must confess I did. T'was on a Sunday morning at 8:45 when I was pulled over. Knowing I was wrong, I dragged myself out of the car and came to introduce myself to the police officer. Woe was me! Guilt was displayed on my face as he revealed the charge. My heart sank. Relief shot through me when he lessened the severity of the fine - my insurance company would have been made the richer.

Pulling away, I grimaced, for my heart was in my throat and I shook as if I were cold. The truth was, I was guilty of the charge. My conscience gnawed at me. It then occurred to me that the police officer was now whistling with wry humor, "Get me to the church in time."

Errant behavior we all have at times and guilty consciences follow. Perhaps children may wonder if God doesn't pull us over in His big set of wheels with the big red flashing light and siren wailing away. Then there are those who believe it was God that coined the phrase, "I might be able to forgive you but to forget? Are you trying to deny me experience!?"The good news is that God can forgive and forget and He does not levy a fine for our misconduct. But we must admit our lifestyle is inappropriate and ask Him for forgiveness and acceptance. Finally, we need to initiate a new beginning, a new pursuit of service for Him.

Something to Consider: the speeding ticket you received may be a gentle reminder that you are running away from God Himself. Won't you take the time now to slow down and get a life by serving Him.
