Worship #555Some say worship is about getting straight teaching from the Bible. Others maintain itÂ’s more important to have good feelings about God. Notice the balance of the Bible. "The goal of our instruction is love" (1 Timothy 1:5). Instruction in church is important. It is not an end in itself. Teaching and instruction from the Bible have an aim, an objective, a purpose. The goal is love. First and foremost, "God is love"(1 John 4:16). Instruction and worship in the church should therefore lead us to encounters with the Creator of the universe. The goal of instruction in singing is to lead us to God and to a love of God. We will, "Sing to the Lord a new song" (Psalm 96:1). Instruction in prayer should bring us into the presence of God. We pray, "I love you, O Lord, my strength" (Psalm 18:1). Instruction in relationships should lead us to pay debts of gratitude. "Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another" (Romans 13:8). Outcomes can be dramatic. One person will see God. "No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us" (1 John 4:12). Another will encounter God. "He will fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you" (1 Corinthians 14:25).
