Putting Boundaries on GodAs a young girl, part of my grade school education included attending mass several times a week. Since I was taught from a young age to place all my cares in the hands of the Lord, I innocently laid in my Father's hands an issue that was troublesome to me, my desire to straighten my terribly crooked teeth. After years of praying that same daily prayer, my parents finally had paid off my eldest sister's braces, and were now ready to consider the added expense of my own! "Praise God," I thought, "My prayer has been answered!" Some may call it sheer coincidence, and others may even balk at the idea of daring to ask God for something dealing with a nature other than the spiritual realm, but I simply don't think it is spiritually healthy to restrict and place boundaries upon our intimacy with GOD. I believe we are to take Him into confidence on ALL matters, great and small. Is God some kind of Spartan general who desires to ration out only what you "need"? Or is He a loving Father who longs to lavish good gifts on his children? If you're a parent, ask yourself, How would you feel if your kids asked you only for what they "needed?" Wouldn't that break your heart? Surely you desire them to be intimate with you and tell you about all their hopes, fears and desires, however trivial they may be. Do you suppose God desires anything less?By putting boundaries around what kind of things you ask God for, you are missing out on a blessing that could be yours, as God deems fit. The fundamental issue is not to promote GREED, but of godly NEED: Our dependence on God, and developing a heart-to-heart intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father.By opening our entire lives to God, we are showing Our Creator that He is not only Lord of our complete life, but that we trust HIM and HIS judgment, resting our very lives in His loving and capable hands.
