Blessings through Faith #548The Good News of Jesus Christ begins on a negative note because we are in need. It then reports the only answer we have. If youve ever had a guilty conscience, you know the problem. Guilt means violation. Youve crossed the line. You are due a penalty. "The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). Christ went to the cross to die in the place of needy people to give answer to their need. "He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross" (1 Peter 2:24). This payment for sin brings us out from under the penalty of death. This payment for sin also gives us life. "The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23). Four thousand years ago, Abraham was a prototype. He approached God with the liabilities of wrongdoing and guilt. He also approached God with faith. Abrahams faith expressed his emptiness. His faith also revealed a trust in the adequacy of the Savior. Galatians 3:13-14 gives a beautiful summary. "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us--for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"--in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."
